Next weekend the diocese observes Called By Name Weekend. We will focus on promoting vocations for the priesthood here in the Diocese of Trenton. Billy Attardi, seminarian from our parish who is in his first (propaedeutic) year at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Ambler, PA, will speak at all of the Masses next weekend. You will find a card in the pews on which you are free to submit the name of anyone whom you believe to be a potential candidate for the seminary. We used this program several years ago and it netted some good results. Please prayerfully consider this initiative and complete the cards next weekend if you are so moved. There is a letter from Bishop O’Connell in the bulletin, and he has produced an introductory video which is also available.
Much has been made over the past week about the tense exchange between Pope Leo and President Trump. Bishop O’Connell has released a reflection on this matter, and I think it is worth your consideration and look. This is a time when all of us need to very carefully discern how we as Catholics participate in the body politic. The anti-Catholic sentiments in our government, especially in the Defense Department (or War Department, if you will) is deeply concerning. The spiritual life of Catholics in the military is seriously at risk. Considering that Secretary Hegseth had children in our school a few years ago, and actually addressed our student body during Catholic Schools Week, makes his remarks even more distressful.
We are moving along quickly to the close of the school year and the various summer programs. The Summer Religious Academy is full, though we are still looking for teachers (paid) and volunteers (good for those HS service hours) to assist, Contact the Faith Formation Office for more information. There are still spots available for the Summer Camp-Out. Check the bulletin for details for the younger children (Pre-K4 to Second Grade). This is a fun and educational six-week camp (campers attend week-to-week) that has been a huge success for us and for our children.
I hope everyone has a blessed week ahead and enjoyed the summer-like weather last week, as it looks like a cool week is ahead.
